Submission Categories

Pieces that expose and challenge the political and economic oppressors that exploit Appalachian land, natural resources, culture, and people.
Pieces that exemplify how Applachians feed our families and our souls. Tell us how to garner our strength, joy, and sustenance from the land in 2025.

We want to know about the reflection, strength, and resilience in Appalachia from organizations and individuals who are making a difference.
Tell us about the wins in our Applachian communities where people have come together for the greater good.

Genre Guidlines

Articles/Personal Essays should be approximately 2,000 words or less.
Please single space submissions and use a 12 point font.
Please submit only one article or essay as a Microsoft Word document.

Short fiction submissions should be approximately 2,000 words or less.
Please single space submissions and use a 12 point font.
Please only submit one short fiction piece as a Microsoft Word document.

Poets may submit 1-3 poems, no longer than 2 pages per poem.
Please single space poems and use a 12 point font.
Please submit all poems in one Microsoft Word document.
Please consider how longer-length poems or poems with particularly distinct formatting might appear in our publication.

Photographers may submit 1-3 photographs for consideration
Artists/Photographers who wish to submit physical prints must email the editorial staff prior to submission.
All photography submissions must be accompanied by titles and the appropriate credit line in a separate document (ex. Photo Title by Photographer’s Name or Photo Title © Photographer’s Name)
